October 6, 1922 - October 14, 2018 Our Mother entered Heaven on October 14, 2018, one week after reaching her 96th birthday.
Our Mother entered Heaven on October 14, 2018, one week after reaching her 96th birthday. She had a good run.
Aside from her years at OSU and her training at Emanuel nursing school, she had lived her entire life in Canby.
She was born Lula Margaret, to Mae and Howard Belton and grew up on their Haines Road farm. She attended the one-room elementary school in New Era, as well as Canby High. She married Richard Birkemeier and started her family in the home her grandparents had built on Hwy 99E.
Margaret had been an awesome homemaker, a wonderful cook, daper dresser, charming hostess, and she was generous-almost to a fault. She loved music, travel, flowers, and anything to do with nature. She enjoyed attending church, the company of small children, but most of all, she loved helping others.
She is predeceased by her parents; spouse; brothers Arthur, George, John; and infant son John Paul. She is survived by three children, Richard (Nancy) Birkemeier, of Canby, Mary (Mike) Ruark, of Yarrow Pt., Wa., Jim (Margaret) Birkemeier, of Aurora and Lopez Island, Wa.; seven randchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Her family is planning a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers Margaret would prefer that you "pay it forward" and offer out a few random acts of kindness.
