Ronald James Hiersche

date of birth September 14 1929

date of death May 10 2020

Ronald (Ron) James Hiersche was born in Portland, OR on September 14, 1929 to John and Mary Hiersche as the yougest of five siblings. He passed away with all five of his sons and daughter and one daughter-in-law at his side, at the McLoughlin Place Senior Living, Oregon City, OR. His passing marked 90 years of life on Sunday, May 10, 2020. He had suffered with Alzimers disease for several years and was well loved by the staff (many of the staff even had to be comforted by Ron’s children, at his passing, as he was so loved)

Ron grew up in the Portland area and graduated from Benson High School, Portland, OR. He first worked in his parents, greenhouse business – later working with his brother, Dick Hiersche, he started out as a concrete finisher and later became a silent-partner in Dick’s Concrete Service (a ready-mix concrete company) and last position was as a Manager at Dick’s Lumber. He also had many rental properties and many hobbies, that occupied his time.

Ron met his first wife, Ilene Green, and they married in 1953. They had five children together, making home in Gladstone, OR. Ron and Ilene were well traveled with some destinations including the USA, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Germany. In that time, they grew to love the people of the world and hosted several kids from Peru and New Zealand, along with a great amount of involvement with the AFS Program (American Field Service). Ilene had an untimely death in 1991 and in 1994, he remarried Beverly Wheeler and lived in Astoria, OR for much of their time together. Beverly had an unfortunate death, from Alzheimer’s disease – in 2015. A few years ago, Ron was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, as well, and lived with a slow progression of that disease. Fortunately the disease never took away knowing his family.

Ron was the last of his four siblings and is survived by his children: son, Dave Hiersche (Susan) of Tigard, OR; son, Dan Hiersche of Milwaukie, OR; daughter, Diana Goodner (Buck) of Pinellas Park, FL; son, Duane Hiersche of Gladstone, OR; son Dale Hiersche (Annell) of Baton Rouge, LA. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren (plus 2 additional step-grandchildren) and 34 great grandchildren (plus 4 step-great grandchildren) – along with an additional great-grandchild who will be born in October.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, there will be no Viewing or Memorial Service. There will be a small gathering for a grave-side service with immediate family attending at the Zion Memorial Park, Canby, OR, on Friday, May 15, 2020, where he will be laid to rest, next to his first wife, Ilene. We ask that you might pay your respects by coming out to the gravesite in the near future or by any other means.

He will be missed by family and friends and that of his infectious laughter and smile…
