Mary "Marie" Augusta Nelke Trumm

date of birth January 4 1925

date of death July 4 2020

Marie Trumm passed away from natural causes, on July 4, 2020 at her home in Canby, Oregon at the age of 95 1/2 years old. Marie and her husband Bill have been residents of Canby since 1977.

Marie was born Mary Augusta Nelke at home in Charleston, Arkansas on Sunday, January 4, 1925. She was the second child of Nicholas Joseph Nelke and Agnes Louise Adams Nelke. The Nelke family moved to Oregon from Ft. Smith, Arkansas in the fall of 1937 to Stayton, Oregon. The Nelke family later settled in Salem, Oregon.

Marie met Bill at a CYO event at church during which Marie was doing dishes and Bill came in to help! The Nelke family and the Trumm family knew one another from their being parishioners at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem. Marie and Bill wrote many letters, courting one another for four years while Bill was serving in the United States Navy in the south pacific at Guadalcanal. On Wednesday, November 28, 1945, Bill, and Marie were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem, Oregon. Bill and Marie worked hard together building their first home on Wallace road in Salem. Marie worked as a secretary for the Oregon state fire marshal's office in Salem for many years. After ten years together, Bill and Marie decided to adopt children. In 1955 they adopted a daughter, Diane; then in 1959 another daughter Karen and another daughter in 1962, Susan. After moving from Salem, Bill and Marie moved around some and then settled in Oregon City where they had a small farm on Forsythe Road.

Marie dedicated her life to raising her three girls, teaching them how to can, sew, cook, and spell; only to mention a few. Marie was able to spell any and every word you asked her to spell out! Marie had a great sense of humor too. Marie enjoyed reading the daily paper, working the crossword puzzle, and listening to talk radio. Family members and friends would always say, "Marie is the nicest lady on earth!"

Marie is survived by her husband of 74 1/2 years, William "Bill" Trumm of Canby; sisters Betty Rose Mitchell of Salem, Deanna Daschel of Portland; brother Ray Nekle of Tualatin; daughters Diane Stetzel of Salem, Karen Hunt (Stuart) of Canby, Susan Trumm of Medford; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held once arrangements can be decided. A celebration of life will be held also, date and time to be determined. Interment for Marie will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon
